Accessibility
Last updated: October 8, 2026
We want Scriveno to work for everyone, including people who use a keyboard instead of a mouse, a screen reader, or who need higher contrast or reduced motion. This page lists what we've built to support that, and how to tell us if something doesn't work for you.
Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
Color and contrast
Every text/background color pair in both our light and dark themes is checked against WCAG AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text and interactive component borders).
The site respects your system's light/dark preference by default, and you can override it with the theme toggle in the footer.
Status and plan comparisons (like the pricing page's included/not-included list) are never color-only - they always pair color with text or symbols.
Keyboard navigation
Every interactive element - links, buttons, form fields, menus - is reachable and operable by keyboard alone.
Focus is always visible: tabbing through the page shows a clear outline around the active element.
A "Skip to main content" link appears as soon as you press Tab, letting you jump past the navigation bar.
Screen readers
Pages use semantic HTML landmarks (header, nav, main) and a single, correctly nested heading structure, so you can navigate by heading or landmark.
Icon-only buttons (like dismissing an error, or expanding a result) have descriptive labels, not just an icon.
Conversion progress and file-processing status are announced live as they update, so you don't need to keep checking the screen.
Listening instead of reading
Every converted page has a Play button that reads it aloud with your browser's built-in voice - free, and no account needed.
Signed in, you can also generate a voice-over with a natural-sounding voice, and download it as an MP3 to listen offline.
Common notation is spoken in words - x² as "x squared", √ as "the square root of", Greek letters by name - so a formula isn't read out as a string of symbols.
Motion
If your operating system is set to reduce motion, Scriveno disables animations and transitions site-wide instead of overriding that preference.
Known limitations
This is an ongoing effort, not a one-time certification. We haven't yet commissioned a full third-party audit, and some older parts of the product may lag behind the standard above. If you hit a barrier, we want to know about it.
Paid checkout happens on PayPal's own pages, which PayPal runs - their accessibility is outside our control.
The converted text is produced automatically from handwriting and can contain recognition mistakes, so check anything important against your original page.
Report an issue
Found something that doesn't work with your keyboard, screen reader, or assistive technology? Email support@scriveno.com or use the contact form - we treat accessibility reports as bugs, and prioritize them accordingly. It helps to include the page address, what you were trying to do, and the browser and assistive technology you use.
